Mobile broadband is growing 30% a year, says UN report - Info Online

São Paulo – The use of mobile broadband grew by 30% a year, according to a report published by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in conjunction with the International Telecommunication Union ( ITU), the UN agency for information technology.

Published on Saturday, the document indicated that, by the end of 2013, the number of mobile broadband connections will exceed three times the fixed connections worldwide. Brazil occupies the 44th position of the countries with highest per capita penetration of mobile broadband, with 36.6% of connections. Singapore leads this regard, with 123.3% usage per capita.

UNESCO report says that more than 70 nations have more than half of its population online. Brazil is in 72 th position in the list with 49.8% of citizens connected.

Another index

studied by the institution with respect to the domestic use of broadband. With over 97% of households connected, South Korea is a nation that spread over this technology among its inhabitants.

However, inequality between the developed and underdeveloped countries is visible. Hamadoun I. Touré, ITU Secretary-General, said that more than 90% of the inhabitants of the 49 nations with the lowest level of development do not yet have any full access to the internet.
