McAfee reveals 10 names of famous people who are a danger on the Internet - TeK.sapo

The compilation of this list by McAfee is now customary and integrates the company’s warnings regarding the safe practices online. Robert Siciliano, security evangelist of the company, says the research by celebrity names is common but people are not aware of the risks they face when doing these searches on computers, smartphones or tablets.

Hackers involve the use of the names of famous personalities to attract more users to their sites, which then distribute various types of threats such as spyware, adware, spam, phishing or viruses.

The promises of news, information about rumors or indiscreet photographs are usually successful strategies, and this year the name of the daughter of Phil Collins was among the most widely used, replacing Emma Watson (Hermione from Harry Potter saga) in the first position.

In the second place comes the name of the singer Avril Lavigne, followed by Sandra Bullock, Kathy Griffin and Zoe Saldana. In any case these names research increase by more than 10% risk online.

The list is dominated by women’s names, integrating only one man, Jon Hamm, star of Mad Men.

Robert Siciliano does not argue that the Internet users no longer do their research on the celebrities who like to follow, but recommends certain precautions, including the suspicion of offers too good to be true, and redoubled reflection in relation to the verification of the addresses of the sites included in the links, because they can have been manipulated to point to fake websites.
