5C Buy an iPhone in the United States can be a good deal, but there are downsides.
São Paulo – Apple announced on Tuesday (10) new iPhone models, the 5S and 5C. Both have been promised for September 20 in countries like United States, Canada and Germany, but nothing was said about the release of them here in Brazil.
is expected to be among the 100 countries that receive the unit in December, before Christmas. However, the price can still be a nasty surprise, which makes buying abroad is a good alternative to the more eager – or economic. But is it worth it?
iPhone 5C – The unlocked versions of the iPhone 5C options in 16 GB and 32 GB out, respectively, 549 and $ 649 – around 1,284 and 1,518 reais, on quote today dollar. With the contract with AT & T, Sprint or Verizon, the value drops, but you must pay a fine to get rid of the agreement, which makes buying a bad business.
Anyway, the highest price converted to real dollars is still much cheaper than the iPhone 5 in Brazil, whose unlocked 16GB version goes for about 2,300 dollars. But there is a catch in international purchasing: the two newest models exceed the quota of $ 500. So, to pass them through customs smoothly, would need to pay taxes on 50 or $ 150 surplus – which would result in 1,342 reais for the 16GB version and 1,693 reais to 32 GB.
iPhone 5S – As for the 5S, the 16GB version without a contract will be launched in the U.S. for $ 649. This is the same price as the iPhone 5 there. The option of 32 GB will cost 749, and 64GB for 849. Therefore, they should arrive here in the same current range, 2,300 (16 GB) to 2,900 reais (64 GB of storage capacity).
Following the same reasoning of “import tax” of 5C, the 16GB version of the 5S would cost about 1,693 reais (1,518 actual or no taxation). The 32 GB, in turn, come by 2,044 reais (1,752 without taxation), while the 64 GB for 2,395 reais (1,986 without taxes). This, of course, discounted values ??of a trip to the United States.
advising Apple in Brazil has no price forecast for iPhones and 5C 5S. In the first case, taking into account the costs of tropicalization and profit margin that would add about 60% to reach 16 GB version for about 2,000 reais – which run from the idea most popular version of iPhone. What can happen is that the price of the 16GB version is subsidized by Apple itself, perhaps to compete with Moto X, Motorola has headed 1,799 real unlocked.
In short, buy a new iPhone in the United States may well be worth. In addition to be cheaper, the device will give guaranteed support if defective. However, there is the factor LTE: the models sold there will not be compatible with the frequency of the Brazilian network. IPhones 5C and 5S iPhones that work with 4G Brazilian will be sold, for now, only in France, Germany, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore. The 3G, at least, should work without problems.
